Introducing Your New Career Coach: Laura Labovich
As a proud Spartan, I’m so thrilled to be a part of this community of career coaches, and equally excited to have the opportunity to meet more Spartans like you.
My name is Laura M. Labovich and I’d love to share a bit about myself so you can make the best decision about fit for you!
I’ve been in private practice, helping job seekers around the country, for the past eight years. Before becoming an entrepreneur, I worked in Human Resources in Corporate America: Walt Disney World and America Online, to name a few. Interestingly, I was able to land these key opportunities because of my affiliation with this great university. Disney came calling when I was a junior in college. That day, I trekked out to the information session from Akers hall in what felt like 4 feet of snow, but it was well worth it. (Later, when I worked in College Recruiting for Disney, I recall thinking how fortunate I was to have been a student at a university that draws such phenomenal employers.)
After 5 magical years working for the Mouse (yes, in caps), I returned to my alma mater to get the best ice cream in the world and a Masters in Labor Relations and Human Resources. I sought out employers in the DC area, so I could be with my fiancé, and was hired by America Online (still very much in growth mode at the time) just a few weeks out of graduate school.
But that wasn’t the end of my relationship with MSU. I still keep in touch with many of my fellow MSU friends. In fact, I worked with many of them at AOL. And, the leadership skills that have enabled me to run a successful national business…they were, of course, honed at MSU. (Think: T-shaped professional!)
In helping you determine the right fit career expert, I hope to make it simple. If you don’t know what you want to do next, or if the word “reinvention” inspires you to get up on a table and dance, I’m not your coach. If you don’t love what you’re doing, but you don’t know what to do next, still best to not call me.
However, if you have had a steady uphill career, with progressively challenging positions in which you’ve been able to do great work, but are starting to feel tired, or frustrated with the work you’re doing (or wish to do it for another new and improved employer), I can help. Never had to look for a job? Again, I’d be a wise choice.
I offer a very rigorous approach to landing your next job. I start by asking you a ton of questions about what you’ve been doing, and how much time you’re spending doing it, and then I apply a methodology to your activities, enabling you to work equally hard, but smarter, so you can gain quick momentum in your search.
Quick tip: if you’re spending more than 5% of your time applying for jobs online, you’ll be happy to know that you haven’t started your job search yet because you’ve been focused on activities that are not likely to yield you a job. But, when we get started, you’ll quickly see traction because we apply a formula: one that works and gets you on the radar of your target employers.
I am committed to you. I’ve spent the last 10 years learning everything I can about the resume writing business—so we can transform you on paper, if need be—and the job search process, in general. I worked with one client who had been out of the workforce for 12 years due to a near fatal car accident, and landed (in great health) in a job with a target employer, making more money then she made before she left. I also worked with an SVP HR client who needed to conduct a confidential search, and needed to exit within 2 months. We made it happen for her.
I’d love to help you land your next job, too!
