Dylan Davids graduated from Michigan State University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Media Arts and Information. He grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan, where he lived until moving out to East Lansing to attend Michigan State. After graduation, he pursued service with AmeriCorps, a federal program that allows individuals to serve as temporary, full-time, volunteers earning a living stipend as well as money to help pay for education. He served for two years in Massachusetts with AmeriCorps Cape Cod, where he was able to help build trails, rescue dolphins, and educate elementary school children about the importance of aquifers. In 2018, he took the opportunity to move back to the Lansing area to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader with the Michigan Nonprofit Association. As a VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) Leader he serves as a peer resource and mentor to AmeriCorps members serving across the state of Michigan who are working to eradicate poverty through capacity-building work with nonprofits and community organizations focused on College Access and Workforce Development. AmeriCorps offered Dylan such tremendous opportunities for personal and professional growth that he would recommend the experience to anyone who wants to give back to their community, earn further real-life experience post-college, or just wants to make a career shift. After leaving VISTA Leader service, Dylan hopes to find employment with the Corporation for National and Community Service (the federal office responsible for AmeriCorps) or work as a program manager for an AmeriCorps program.
